What is the Simple Present Tense?
The Simple Present Tense is used for:
Facts & general truths โ Water boils at 100ยฐC.
Habits & routines โ I wake up at 7 AM.
Feelings & opinions โ She likes chocolate.
Structure of the Simple Present Tense
| Subject | Affirmative | Negative | Question |
|---|---|---|---|
| I/You/We/They | play tennis. | donโt play tennis. | Do you play tennis? |
| He/She/It | plays tennis. | doesnโt play tennis. | Does he play tennis? |
Notice:
- In affirmative sentences with he/she/it, add “-s” to the verb. (She works at a hospital.)
- In negative sentences, use “do not (donโt)” or “does not (doesnโt)” before the verb.
- In questions, use “do/does” at the beginning. (Does he like pizza?)
