Why the 2026 AI Examiner Hates Your Old Templates

Before the 2026 ETS update, students survived by memorizing rigid, formal templates (“First and foremost, I firmly believe that…”). Do not do this anymore.

  2. The Reasoning (15 Seconds): Give one clear reason. Don’t overcomplicate it. (Example: “The main reason is that it just isn’t practical for most students…”)
  3. The Real-World Example (15 Seconds): Anchor your reason in a specific, personal scenario. The AI loves concrete vocabulary. (Example: “Take my university, for example. When they tried this last year, the library was completely overwhelmed…”)
  4. The Significance (10 Seconds): Wrap it up by connecting back to the bigger picture. (Example: “So ultimately, that’s why I think it does more harm than good.”)

Let’s look at how the AI scores a response to a standard Preference question: “Do you prefer working on academic projects in a group, or independently?”
